Leanspace for Small Satellites

Leanspace offers solutions for Small Satellites across the complete breadth of the segment, from picosats, nanosats, and any cubesat from 1U to 16U, all the way up to 500kg smallsats.

By using our modular, scalable platform, small satellite teams can select and pay only for needed functionalities, reducing costs and complexity. Our solutions feature plug-and-play implementation, with complete documentation and application source code for easy customization without the vendor lock-in.

Our solutions contain flexible Telemetry and Telecommand (TM/TC) interfaces, supporting custom and standard protocols, ideal for short-duration In-Orbit Demonstrator (IOD) missions and remote sensing operations.

Common business drivers for small satellites

We know costs are always a constant concern; smallsats are cost-efficient and your purpose with IODs or cubesat missions is to drastically reduce the cost as much as possible.

We have products with a limited scope that are specialized for smallsats, enabling you to only need to pay for what you use.

Our products and platform have been built with modern software’s best practices, designed to save you significant engineering hours.

As you build and scale your team, you can’t be an expert in everything, and ground segment capabilities often come last on the agenda. The Leanspace platform gives you a jumpstart in your ground segment capabilities.

You don’t need to reinvent the wheel and instead leverage Leanspace’s ecosystem with its standard ground segment functions to fast-track your learnings.

We’ll also give you the source code of the app along with the documentation, application templates, and reference architectures so your team can easily build their competencies.

Smallsats are now quite standardized in a mature supply chain. But history has shown that they fail often, and one of the leading concerns we hear is that the provided software lacks a lot of flexibility for operators to adjust and conform to unique mission requirements.

That’s why Leanspace offers you highly customizable, modular TM/TC interfaces, with the capability to adapt to any protocol, along with compatibility with many suppliers’ OBSW.

This means the software will work with the satellite platform of your choice, while no longer being bound to it, allowing you to change your satellite platform but still keep the same software stack.

The future of space will be defined by bold visions. We see ourselves as an enabler for your ambitions but we understand that the journey is long and has to start small. We are here to be your ground segment partner through this journey.

With Leanspace you can start small with just a few products, but rest assured everything you need is there, when you need it.

In the future, you can grow, scale, change, iterate, rebuild, etc, in an unprecedented manner using the same software ecosystem and our deep expertise.

Your team have spent most of the time on the hardware-side, it’s getting close to the launch, and you need software that works yesterday. Sound familiar?

Our off-the-shelf products can get you running in no time at all. Just choose what you need and we’ll help you get onboarded fast.

We’ve went as far as building and qualifying an entire TM/TC chain from scratch in <3months.

Common ground segment requirements for smallsat missions

Small satellite missions typically face tight constraints on power, mass, and volume due to budget and launch vehicle limitations. Communications usually utilize UHF/VHF or S-band frequencies, supported by Ground Station as a Service (GSaaS) networks for frequent Low Earth Orbit (LEO) passes. Missions involve minimal testing, manual pass planning, and custom communication protocols, or a variation on a general protocol such as CSP.

In-Orbit Demonstrator (IOD) missions have short durations focused on rapidly validating payload technologies. Operations require flexibility and responsive payload planning.

Remote sensing missions demand smooth integration of Command and Control (C2), mission planning, and user segments. They rely on sensitive communication systems for weak signals from small terrestrial devices and usually need satellite constellations for effective coverage and service reliability.
